Self assessment filing deadline extended

Taxpayers have been given an extra two days to file their online self-assessment tax returns due to a proposed strike by tax office staff on the usual deadline day of January 31.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has said it will not issue penalties to anyone who files a tax return on February 1 or 2. Tax payments may also be made on these days without any interest being charged for late payment.
